françoise desmont
(French, b. 1932)
Françoise Desmont lives and works in the Oise part of France.
Attracted to painting and design at a young age, Desmont was always at the top of her class in those subjects. Wanting to focus on art studies after graduating high school, she wished to enroll at the Beaux Arts academy in Lille, north France, or another similar institution. However, her family was not supportive of her decision to pursue a career in the arts. Discouraged, she spent a couple of years working a few odd jobs, but never ignored her penchant to draw and paint. At 20 years old, she left for Paris.
Desmont became enamored of the works of mother-and-son landscape painters Suzanne Valadon and Maurice Utrillo. She also admired Maurice de Vlaminck for his gray, tormented skies and the lopsided houses buried in the snow. Taking notes from the masters, she spent many hours in museums and expositions, studying their techniques and subject matter, while continuing to work on her own style and vision.
Desmont later met the very talented and well-known artist Urbain Huchet, who encouraged her to genuinely follow her artistic ambitions. Galvanized by Huchet’s inspiration, she continued to advance her visual techniques, and has since successfully exhibited her works, and enjoys the appreciation of art admirers around the world.
